In the eve of Press Freedom Day, in Chisinau police persecuted journalists

Notice what kind of methods the employees of Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova used in order to interrupt without any reason a legal and peaceful manifestation.
On April 30 ,2008 at the National Palace of Chisinau was commemorated the 50th anniversary from the launch of the public TV channel (which in fact is not public), with the participation of the president.
The manifestation began at 5.25 pm. and lasted only 7-8 min, being brutally interrupted by some police officers.

About the manifestation

Initially only Oleg Brega protested but after 4 min, being persecuted while he was protesting (by MIA representatives-with and without uniform), Gheorghe Lupusoru posted a message; Ghenadie Brega filmed almost everything.

Parascovia Topada and Anatol Hristea-Stan looked out from proximity everything that happened at the protest.

Police organized a cordon and created an obstacle for the  participants so as they cannot approach to the entry of  the Palace, where were a lot of people who came to celebrate the 50th anniversary from foundation of public company “Teleradio-Moldova”.

One citizen pulled out the white canvas from Oleg Brega, which had the message:”50 years of lies». Finally officers arrested the journalists Oleg Brega and Gheorghe Lupusoru, the observers Anatol Hristea-Stan and Ghenadie Brega(journalist from “Eu-TV”)and also the aggressor (Vladimir Cibotaru) who was deliberated after 30 min. The officers broke up the legislation, namely: they didn’t legitimate although the protestants demanded this, not even one of the interdictions was argued by police, restriction of the right for a free expression and interruption of a peaceful demonstration.

We noticed that the new law about manifestations (issued in Official Monitor of the Republic of Modova in 22.04.2008) and also international laws allow citizens to organize such demonstrations without announce local authorities.

Through the participants who interrupted the manifestation were:

• Iacob Gumenita – vice-commissary of Chisinau municipality.
  Iurie Crinjanovschi – chief of Public Order at General Police Station from Chisinau
  Rodion Budeanu – vice-commissary of Buiucani Police Station.
  Constantin Avornic – chief of “Scut” regiment and others.

All of them arrived at 5.45 pm to Buiucani Police Station. Here officers committed again a lot of abuses, namely:
-they didn’t legitimate;
-they insisted to execute their orders without referring to laws;
-they forbidden us to film, to communicate with relatives and with a lawyer.
-the detention lasted 22 hours.

We gave a complain to the  attorney of Buiucani district at 10.30 pm, who promised us that we will “receive an answer in legal terms”,and the went.

After 22 hours we went to Buiucani Police Court , where the audience took place. Each of our files had 20 pages!!! and they were presented to us very quickly. The judge was in a hurry to pronounce the sentence in the same day, arguing with law of “judgement of administrative files in 24 hours”.
Finally a new date for judgment was established- May 7, 2008 at 2.00. pm at Buiucani Police Court, hall nr. 605, Diaconu in role of the judge.

Hyde Park association –pleads for the free expression and accessing information.

In the same morning, April 30 at 7.05 am, Oleg Brega was called by somebody who named himself being “ the commissary Axentiev” and announced him that he “should be present today at 10.00 am at General Police Station from Chisinau”.
